Pyrophleps ellawi, with its slender body and rapid flight, is a wasp mimic. It appears to be extremely rare, with only one or two individuals per sighting. The new species description in ZooKeys is also the first record of the genus Pyrophleps in Peninsular Malaysia. Unique footage filmed in the Malaysian jungle revealed its interesting behaviours such as sucking up nutrients from moist substrate, known as puddling. The discovery has been published in ZooKeys (2017) 692: 129–139, doi: 10.3897/zookeys.692.13587.
