Melanosphecia paolo from Thailand is a new, metallic blue species of the extremely rare genus Melanosphecia, known until now only from New Guinea and Borneo. With its spectacular colouration, long hind legs and an incredible illusion of a wasp-waist, complemented by behavioural imitations, this clearwing moth is a striking spider wasp mimic. The discovery has been published in Zootaxa (2019) 4695: 295–300.
New scientific publication, defining a new bacteriophage genus TP84 virus. The paper describes monographic work on TP-84 bacteriophage genomics, bioinformatics and proteomics analysis leading to the construction of a new thermostable, nanobiocarrier for bioactive molecules. Moreover, this work is important from basic research stand point. Because the genome sequence shows essentially no similarity to any previously characterised bacteriophage, TP-84 should be considered a new species in an undefined genus within the Siphoviridae family. Thus a taxonomic proposal of a new Tp84virusgenus has been accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. The results were published in PLOS ONE: Skowron PM et. al.:: “Sequence, genome organization, annotation and proteomics of the thermophilic, Geobacillus stearothermophilus bacteriophage TP-84 and its classification in the new Tp84virus genus.” PLOS ONE 2018, 13: e0195449.
